Something for the weekend with an inspirational walk at Kingley Vale Views: 12296
So, the local news interviewed me last week about the sort of things I might get up to of a weekend and the article was published in the News in their Weekend supplement on Saturday http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/life/my-weekend-sandy-walker-1-5020815. The questions were mainly about the types of leisure activities i may get up to and it struck me how little time i spend being leisurely! I managed to get a few plugs in for some deserving folk for the last play I saw and my favourite venue in Southsea and to mention the Germany tour which is shaping up well. It was a little weird seeing myself in the paper, although not the first time, but I particularly liked being in an article with a picture of me and Dave Grohl, who I had also mentioned. Well, I know he doesn't need the publicity but they did ask me who I'd most like to spend a weekend with
The last question was asking where is a good day out locally and I mentioned some of the places I really like to go walking in. In the spirit of this, today I went to Kingley Vale, just North of Funtingdon, part of the South Downs. Oh Boy, what a lovely place. One of the oldest Yew tree forests in the country and the atmosphere, even with people wandering around, is really ethereal. The sense of wonder I felt at realising that some of these trees are over a thousand years old. The trunks are gnarled and character full, they really feel like spirits of the past with a wisdom unknown. A really inspirational place. This will be a frequent haunt this summer I think.
