Buzzing at the Beehive with a new percussive talent. Views: 1717

Yes, it has been a while. I can only beg forgiveness by claiming most of my spare moments (few exist) are jammed full of thesis writing as the last months of my PhD journey wind their way inexorably onward. You will be sick to death of me once it's done and I'm blogging every few days again!

On Friday the WB band were back at the Beehive in Swindon, tis a great pub with much charm and a discerning clientele. I had barely started singing when a man in front of me started to take his shirt off, I mean it came completely off, I was quite overcome Tongue out We had a lack of Blackie (cajon) that evening as he is off sunning himself again somewhere, so we were ably accompanied by a new recruit to our numbers Dave Pilgrim a percussionist of fine standing. So able was he in fact that, with no rehearsal at all, he was able to keep us more or less in check (it is a difficult task you know, we are quite wayward) for the whole evening. Just on the back of a few you tube videos and a link to the album on dropbox. It was great to have a new layer of sound in the mix again, I particularly loved it when he got the eggs out, you know the shaky ones, and played them. My memory fails me which songs they were played on but it sounded great. Then bongos on the others, adding to the latin feel we are often accused of. Really good, I now have a new dream, to have both the cajon and added percussion. We had that on the album because, obviously Blackie layered them up when we recorded it, but now we could have it live too. Not all the time maybe, but sometimes. Oh the joy! Cool

Next outing is on Saturday the 22nd November, at the most most wonderful Square and Compass in Worth Matravers. Fabulous venue with a dinosaur museum. Hope to see some of you there!
