Golden Lions and Cardboard Citizens Views: 3511
Lovely gig at the Golden Lion again last week. Great audience and good fun was had by all. There was a moment during 'Do it Alone' when I felt supremely happy, the song was so tight and Blackie was doing the fabulous thing he does with the Cajon where he builds the dynamic as we are about to go back into the stops I really really wanted to keep on playing that song for ever! It was lovely! It also seems that my version of Summertime (never exactly the same but more or less recognisable) is really well received and so was 'In these Shoes' the Kirsty MacColl number we do.
At the end of a long week I went to London's East End for the weekend for a 'Joker' training weekend with the Cardboard Citizens. http://www.cardboardcitizens.org.uk/ This was a weekend long workshop learning how to facilitate Forum Theatre which is a kind of interactive theatre designed to enable audiences to learn I guess (Maybe someone could correct me if I'm wrong on the comments or add to this?). Originally called Theatre of the Opressed this forum theatre style is used by Cardboard Citizens particularly to change the lives of people who are homeless. It is extremely powerful and moving. The weekend was lead by Adrian Jackson who is their director and he worked us all like dogs! Learnt loads and came back completely baggy eyed and exhausted! Very inspiring even though I was slightly terrified all weekend!
