Roots

Well with such a wonderful photograph we couldn't resist the pun, so here's a few words about our "roots"

Sandy Walker and Andy Broad began working together in early 2010 when they decided to experiment with 'couple of songs'. A 'couple' quickly became a 'cascade' as Sandy is a prolific lyricist with a good ear for melody and harmony and Andy has a wealth of chordal and rhythmic ideas.

Sandy's roots are Folky with an interest in Jazz whilst Andy is an established Blues performer also with a side line in Jazz. The resulting original music is a unique blend of all three, with lively Latin inspired foot tappers and Jazz tinged ballads and a couple of out an out Bluesers, every song with its own story.

After a year of working together they had upwards of 15 strong originals and the Walker Broad duo expanded to a 4 piece and released thier first album, titled
"A Walk Abroad" (all puns intended :-))

As well as song writing they have a keen interest in performing, their live set includes an ever changing selection of their own songs plus a few Blues and Jazz standards, and one or two traditional Folk numbers.

If you'd like them to perform at your venue or private occasion (how about a house party with a difference?)
do give Andy a call on 02392 877 933 or 07951 170 874
or, if you prefer, email him on: wb@walkerbroad.co.uk

The Walker Broad Band

Sandy Walker

Whilst Sandy has only been performing professionally for the last few years she has been teaching music and using music in her practice as a mental health practitioner for many, many years. She is also an academic in mental health and recently gave a paper at a conference in New Jersey, USA on 'Lifemusic' which is an approach that uses improvisation as a therapeutic tool for self-expression.

Andy Broad

Andy has worked a full time professional musician for nearly 20 years, playing both solo and in a variety of blues and jazz bands. He blends blues, jazz and world music together to create his own style. He's toured France several times and played at many festivals. 'A Walk Abroad' is Andy's 14th album.

Simon Tufnail

Simon has had a long career playing blues and rock based music, in many bands. In that time he's developed a powerful and instinctive approach with a strong funky feel. As well as his roots in the blues he has been involved with some more alternative styles, achieving success with the band 'Look Back In Anger' in the eighties and as a founder member of the band 'Cranes' in the 90s.

Alan "Blackie" Blackmore

Alan ('Blackie') has wealth of experience playing drums and percussion for many blues, rock and world music bands. His CD releases 'Visions Of The Serengeti' and 'Echoes Of Africa', published by Northstar Music, have been used frequently in TV soundtracks.
